Lost Legacy - A Photo Exhibition of Disappearing Malaysian Architecture
I will be exhibiting a themed set of photographs entitled "Lost Legacy" at the Guerrilla Photography Exhibition arranged by PhotoMalaysia and PhotoSafari http://www.facebook.com/events/369540713116873/ in Avenue K Shopping Centre, Kuala Lumpur from 8th September to 15th September.
These photos highlight the disappearance of many prime heritage buildings which exemplify the unique Malaysian architectural style.
If you are in the area please drop by the Ground Floor of Avenue K - it would be great to meet up with you and there are many other photographers exhibiting there also. If you time it correctly there are informal sponsored "teh tarik" sessions where you can have some drinks and snacks and meet many of the exhibiting photographers to discuss their work.

One Asia - Celebrating The Images of Asia
Michael Yamashita inspired all the attendees at the One Asia "Images of Asia" Conference at Suntec in Singapore 23rd - 24th October with his wonderful stories of his 30 year career in photography. Michael is a renowned National Geographic photographer who has specialised in many Asian based stories. In two sessions he highlighted many of these stories and material from his books with some wonderful photographs and illuminated the background involved in the picture planning and setup.
Steve McCurry was meant to have also been at the event but unfortunately cancelled at the last moment leaving Michael to take the main headline spot.
Other photographers presenting included James Whitlow Delano, Manuel Librodo, Goh Kim Hui, Lester Ledesma, Gunther Deichmann, Michael Aw, William Tan, Evan Wong, Francis Lee, Yeo Wee han, Diego Garcia, Jeffrey Kong, Ralph Haering, Felix Goh, Nelson John, Andy Yeo and Aaron Wong. The event was organised by Asian Geographic magazine.

Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia
The Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia (IAMM) houses more than seven thousand artefacts, as well has an exceptional library of Islamic-art books. The art objects on display range from the tiniest pieces of jewellery to one of the world’s largest scale models of the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca. The aim is to create a collection that is truly representative of the Islamic world. Instead of concentrating on works from the heartlands of Persia and the Middle East, IAMM also puts the emphasis on Asia. China and Southeast Asia are especially well represented.
I visited IAMM to view Steve McCurry's photo exhibition, "A Common Faith: Steve McCurry's Travels Through The Muslim World" which is on show (7th January - 8th April, 2010). I had tried to attend his workshop on 8th January but unfortunately due to my late application it was already full - it would have been a wonderful opportunity to meet and study with the master. Hopefully he will be back again soon.
