It has been around 25 years since I was last in Guangzhou .... and what a change indeed! Arriving at the gigantic Baiyun airport, which seems even bigger than Beijing's impressive new airport, you realise that things have changed significantly here. A fast modern highway takes you right into the centre of the city which has grown both outwards and upwards with some very impressive modern high buildings.
Out on the streets there are now organised pedestrian crossings, traffic overpasses, tunnels, new shopping centres and wide clean sidewalks.
However you can still easily duck down some side streets to discover the old Canton with the traditional foods, classic Chinese architecture and some wonderful street characters.
